Japan’s Home Cooking

Niku Jyaga

Sounds like Mick Jagger and looks like the Japanese equivalent of English beef casserole. Served hot with rice. £6.50

Torisoboro Bento

Minced chicken cooked with ginger, soya sauce, mirin (Japanese sherry) and sake (Japanese rice wine). Served with mange tout, small strips of Japanese omelete and cooked rice. £6.50

Toritsukune

Skewered minced chicken combined with water chestnuts, fried and seasoned with Teriyaki sauce. Two skewers £2.50

Gyuniku-Aspara

Marinated sirloin steak wrapped around asparagus and broiled. 1 roll sliced into 6 pieces. £4.50

Zousui

Japanese risotto. Here the stock is fish stock and the mixture is thickened with egg. £4.00

Chawan Mushi

Egg & Japanese stock is steamed in a cup into which prawns & edamame  have been placed. The perfect Chawan Mushi is just set, a challenge similar to poaching the perfect egg.

On site dinner parties only

Kaki Age

Essentially a home-cooking version of tempura, this uses  a crispier batter. Delicious served with hot noodles or rice, these are simply made with carrot, fine beans and onion, yet taste like a million dollars, or yen. £3.50 for 1 serving

Soba Noodles

Buckwheat noodles are delicious served in a hot bowl of dashi. Eat by themselves or with Kaki Age. £3.00 (Large 4.50)

Ochazuke

Popular after the pub, this is simply cooked rice and grilled salmon with green tea poured over to make a soup. £4.00

Kama Age Udon

A beautiful variant of noodles in broth. Dip hot noodles into tsuyu with your choice of spring onion, sesame, ginger and yuzu-kosho (citrus fruit & very mild chilli). Or just add them all!

£3.00  (Large £4.50)

Miso Soup

Served with most meals this is fish stock with miso (fermented soya bean) paste. Around Japan the taste varies enormously depending on regional variations in the miso. £2.00

3-Day Pickles

Unlike English pickles these taste fresh and light having only been placed in a vinegar and sugar mixture for a short time £0.75

Japanese Rice
